School HighlightsSecond Quarter Ends January 18
Benchmark Reports Available Soon! Benchmark reports are available online Friday, January 26 at 6:00pm here! If you have any questions regarding absences, please contact the school office at 662-7958. Questions regarding grades should be directed to your child's teacher. Absences and tardies are recorded as follows: If a child misses over 20 minutes but less than 2 hours of school, it is recorded as tardy and is considered a partial day absence. Time missed less than 20 minutes is considered a tardy but not counted towards a partial day absence. Time missed beyond 2 hours will be recorded as an absence. Absences for a partial or full day beyond 10 days without a written excuse from a health care professional are marked truant. A detailed brochure regarding the district’s attendance policy is online here. Jump Rope for Heart
The event is scheduled for the week of February 5-9. All Forest Glen students will be participating in the event during their physical education classes. Watch your child's backpack and newsletters for further details. Forest Glen Food Drive
January is Forest Glen’s annual school-wide food drive to benefit the districts Giving Tree! The 4th graders will be visiting the pantry at the end of the month to stock the shelves and learn about the pantry and just how it helps families in our district. The classroom with the most donations will receive an ice cream party sponsored by The Giving Tree! Please send non-perishable food items to your child’s teacher through Jan. 29th. Currently the pantry is low on: Ramen noodles, boxes of oatmeal, cereal and canned pasta. Note: Please check expiration dates before sending food in to be donated! Thank you in advance for your participation! The Fourth Grade Team & The HSSD Giving Tree DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
Please remember to send your child with appropriate outer wear each day. This should include winter jacket, snow pants, boots, mittens/gloves and hat. Please remember to label all items with child's name. As a rule all children go outside daily when the weather temperature, factoring in the wind chill, is at or above zero degrees. This can be a long time when you feel chilled! Some students are also walking to and from school and some may be standing at a bus stop for several minutes. We want all our children to stay healthy so they can do their best at school! Music Notes See what's happening in music at Forest Glen by checking out Forest Glen Music Room Facebook page! Attention 4th grade parents! Our Fourth Grade students will be learning to play the recorder as part of their music classes. Recorder lessons will be integrated into their music classes with the goals of applying their music reading and group playing skills along with developing recorder technique and preparing them for their fifth grade music classes. Each student will need one recorder. Due to the wide variety of recorders that are available to purchase, students will need to either purchase one through the school or have their own recorder from home approved by the music teacher during music class. (No wooden or toy recorders will be accepted). Students will receive their recorders in February when we start the unit and they may keep their recorders at the end of the school year. For more information, recorder form, and to purchase a recorder, click here ! Lineville Intermediate School Music Choices In March parents of 4th graders will be asked to choose a 5th grade music class. Course descriptions and registration information will be available on March 14th, and parents and students will learn about band, chorus, and orchestra classes at Lineville. A selection must be made and the registration completed within two weeks. Parents who desire more information at this time are invited to visit the music class websites, which are linked to the Lineville home page: http://linevillehssd.weebly.com Importance of School Attendance! If your child will be absent due to an appointment, it is recommended that you attain an excuse from your provider for the date and time of the visit and return the excuse to the school office. This will ensure that the absence is noted as an excused absence or tardy. Appointment cards will NOT be accepted as an excuse.
Call to report your child's daily absence by calling the school's attendance line at 662-7990. NEW!! Report your child's absence online here : http://forestglenhssd.weebly.com/electronic-absence-form.html Monitor your child’s tardies and absences through the district website: http://powerschool.hssd.k12.wi.us/public/ Click here for more information about the importance of attendance from the State Superintendent's office. EMERGENCY CLOSINGS AND DELAYS
Inclement weather may necessitate the closing or delay of schools. If schools are closed this will also include the cancellation of extracurricular activities and the events in the community pool unless otherwise announced. Please listen to local radio or television stations for school closings or delays. Such weather may also deter students from going outside during the school day. Please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. In addition to local radio and television, weather conditions can be checked on-line at www.hssd.k12.wi.us. 2017-2018 HSSD Calendar

Referendum Update
The Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution on an operational referendum for the April 3, 2018 spring election ballot. This referendum differs from the April, 2017 referendum, in large part, because of the duration. The Board listened to the community through surveys and the Community Task Force Committee. The feedback was clear that the recurring nature of the April, 2017 referendum was not acceptable. The 5 year duration on the current referendum allows the district to address the immediate needs of class size, compensation, and facilities maintenance. As the Board works to address its financial challenges, we are committed to providing as much information as possible. For more information about the referendum, please visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us/referendum. If you have any questions for the Board of Education, please reach out to your board member listed in this article. Speak Up 2017
